Abstracts of will from Chelsfield proved in
the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
William Chapman
of Chelsfield dated 23 January 1778
Abstract of the will of William Chapman of Mount Hall,
Chelsfield yeoman, being advanced in years, dated 23 January 1778.
I give to my sister Mary Townsend for life an annuity of £10
to be paid out of my messuages, lands etc. in Chelsfield now in my own
occupation, she to have power to distrain if it remain unpaid after 14
days.
I give to John Round of Chelsfield smith and Thomas Judd of
Chelsfield yeoman all my messuages and lands in Chelsfield now in my own
occupation (subject to the payment of the above annuity) On Trust to the
use of my nephew William Biggs of Orpington yeoman, the youngest son of my
sister Ann Biggs, to permit him to receive the rents and profits for his
lifetime.
After his death, to the use of the first son of the said
William Biggs and his heirs male, and in default of such heirs then to the
second, third, fourth, fifth and all other sons of the said William Biggs
begotten or to be begotten. For default of such heirs male, to the use of
all and every the daughters of the said William Biggs as joint tenants,
and in default of any such heirs then to the right heirs of the said
William Biggs.
I give to my nephew Thomas Townsend of St. Mary Cray yeoman
my moiety of messuages or tenements, butcher’s shop, farm, lands,
buildings etc. in Ash, Kent, now in the occupation of Joseph Oliver [?]
for ever.
To my said nephew Thomas Townsend £100.
To my nephew John Biggs and my nieces Elizabeth wife of James
Mansfield, Sarah wife of Thomas Mosier and Ann wife of Nicholas Rawlins
£5 each.
To my nephews John, William and James Townsend, and my niece
Elizabeth wife of …. Upfold £5 each.
To Sarah Super widow who now lives with me £10.
I give all residue to my said nephews William Biggs and
Thomas Townsend and I appoint them my Executors.
