Perthany Rock of Chelsfield dated
20 April 1844
Abstract of the will of Perthany Rock of Chelsfield
spinster dated 20 April 1844.
I devise all that my two freehold houses or cottages
with the Blacksmith’s shop penthouse and garden with appurtenances now
in the occupation of Philip Archibald Rock and Thomas Clark and situate in
Chelsfield, and all the fixtures belonging to me in and upon the premises,
to Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn both of Chelsfield, their heirs and
assigns
to the use of my nephew William Peter Rock and his assigns
for his lifetime, and after the determination of that estate by any means
in his life to the use of the said Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn their
heirs and assigns during the residue of his lifetime in trust for William
Peter Rock and to support the contingent uses hereinafter limited
and after the decease of the said William Peter Rock to the
use of his eldest son William Rock and his assigns for his life, and after
the determination of that estate by any means during his life to the use
of the said Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn their heirs and assigns
during the residue of his lifetime in trust for William Rock and to
support the contingent uses hereinafter limited
and after the decease of the said William Rock to the use of
his first and other sons according to priority of birth and the heirs of
his and their bodies and for default of such male issue to the use of my
nephew James Rock, son of my brother James Rock of Hastings, Susses,
coachmaker, his heirs and assigns for ever.
I give to my nephew William Peter Rock and to his wife all my
books and linen and half of the wardrobe belonging to me, and the other
half of my wardrobe I give to the wife of my brother George Rock for her
absolute use.
I give to my brother William Rock my eight day clock and to
my brother James Rock any piece of furniture as a family relic which he
may select but so as the same shall not already have been disposed of by
this will.
The remainder of my furniture I give to my brothers George
and Joseph equally, the division to be made by my Executors in case my
brothers should disagree.
I give to Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn £50 upon trust
to invest and to pay the interest to my brother Joseph Rock until all his
lawful child or children shall attain 21 years and then to divide the
capital equally among them.
I give £50 to my brothers William and James Rock £50
apiece, to my brother George Rock £100 and to my brother James [sic] Rock
£50.
To my nephews Philip Archibald Rock and James Rock £40 each,
to my nephew William Peter Rock £20, to my niece Mary Rock, daughter of
my brother James Rock £25, to my niece Hannah Poole now residing at
Sydenham, Kent, the daughter of my late brother Philip Rock, nineteen
guineas, to Mrs. Edith Kibble now residing at Eltham, Kent £40, to James
Thornton of Chislehurst, Kent postman nineteen guineas.
To the said Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn £10 each, to
Ann North and Mary Evans £5 each, to Mrs. Mary Scrivings, wife of John
Scrivings of Chislehurst wheelwright £10 and to John Allberry and James
Clement both of Chelsfield blacksmiths £5 each.
The residue of my real and personal estate I give to the said
Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn upon trust to sell and convert into
money and to divide the proceeds into equal portions among all the
legatees mentioned in my will.
I appoint Edward Davies and Thomas Coleborn Executors.
