LEES COURT ESTATE PROJECT

LEES COURT ESTATE PROJECT

Badlesmere Bottom – Geophysical Survey (4th Feb – 1st March 2019)

Following a recent study of APs, the KAS survey team has been tasked to survey the fields at Badlesmere Bottom (TR 0184 5478) this year to aid targeting of further archaeological features.  The survey aims to ensure the KAS works to a long-term strategic archaeological plan that utilises a combination of APs, estate maps, LiDAR and magnetometry results, to aid a greater understanding of the Lees Court Estate landscape.

Badlesmere Bottom (nearest postcode ME13 0NL) is a series of large agricultural fields off Fisher Street Road, on the opposite side of the valley to both Stringmans and Woodcourt Fields (excavated in 2018).  The map below shows a potential survey area of approximately five hundred 30m x 30m grids. KAS members are invited to assist the survey team with setting out, grid transitions and systematic fieldwalking throughout the 4-week project.

Courageous members interested in helping out should contact email Richard.taylor@kentarchaeology.org.uk or Fred.birkbeck@kentarchaeology.org.uk for further details.
