Stephen Clifton from Maidstone Area Archaeological Group (MAAG) discusses the findings of the Roman Villa site at East Malling.

Stephen will be talking about the recent MAAG excavations at East Malling where Roman and Late Iron Age era remains were found in the 1950’s and 60’s. Unfortunately, these excavations were never fully reported, and so we only have brief unillustrated articles in Archaeologia Cantiana to go on. The work by MAAG over the last year has increased our knowledge of the site considerably. We now believe that we are looking at a walled enclosure covering approximately 8,500 m2 which we have only just begun to explore.
