Kent Archives Office Major Accessions 1984-87

KENT ARCHIVES OFFICE: MAJOR ACCESSIONS 1984-87 NIGEL YATES, MAUREEN SHAW and MICHAEL CARTER This is the second addition to the Guide to the Kent Archives Office and its two Supplements to appear in Archaeologia Cantiana, the first having appeared in Volume Cl for 1984 and covering the years 1981-83. The list of accessions in the current volume covers all those records acquired through transfer, gift, bequest, deposit or purchase between 1 January, 1984, and 31 December, 1987. Some records of minor importance or collections, which remain substantially uncatalogued, have been excluded, but collections acquired before 1984 and catalogued in 1984-87 have been included. Many of the accessions in this list contain fairly recent material and it should be noted that records less than thirty years old are, except where there is a statutory right of access (e.g. parish registers), not normally made available to the public. The Hst has been compiled in four parts, that for the main office at Maidstone by Nigel Yates, those for the branch offices at Folkestone and Ramsgate by Maureen Shaw and that for the branch office at Sevenoaks by Michael Carter; in the case of the last of these, records transferred from Maidstone when the branch office was first opened in 1986 have been excluded.
