KAS Magazine, Issue 122, Summer 2024
Message from the Chair of the Board of Trustees
Richard Taylor
During our 2024 excavation season, we drew inspiration from Dr. Brian Philp’s compelling presentation on his life’s archaeological work at the KAS Annual General Meeting in Maidstone. From April to June, the Society carried out excavations at Lees Court Estate, confidently examining two prehistoric monuments likely of Neolithic origin and, therefore, holding national importance.
In addition, we supported SHAL (Studying History & Archaeology in Lympne) in exploring a probable Roman fortification that once overlooked the port of Portus Lemanis during the Roman era. The next issue will feature more details about this exciting discovery.
There is much going on in Kent at present, including many projects and heritage events. So, enjoy the issue, and we look forward to receiving more articles for the next issue.
All the best,
Richard
