KAS Committee Round-Up
Historic Buildings Committee
Preparations are underway for the Autumn Historic Buildings Conference, which will be on Saturday 9 October in Harrietsham Village Hall. More details on this one-day conference will be available in the next issue of the KAS Newsletter.
The Committee has been formulating its plans for the coming year and beyond. A number of options are being investigated, including organising short courses on building recording and targeting support for research teams involved in the Peopling Past Landscapes project. Work has started on compiling a list of sources of information on the expenses associated with the construction of old buildings. When completed, it is hoped that the list will serve as a useful resource for anyone wanting to calculate how much an old building would have cost to build.
Industrial archaeology is a subject that has received very little attention. Yet a great number of former industrial sites are being redeveloped in Kent, resulting in the loss of many buildings that have either been inadequately recorded or not recorded at all. The Committee hopes to form a sub-committee to focus on this neglected area of archaeology, and would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge of, or interest in industrial archaeology who is willing to become involved.
