Train Stops for KAS Members

KAS member Susan Pittman recently came across this charming piece of information. She writes:

“There was a whole large page account of the KAS AGM held at Eynsford in the Chronicle and District Times of 3 August 1909 (I think this is the Dartford Chronicle, but this is not written at the top of the page). The article contained some lovely pen and ink drawings. Towards the end of the account my attention was caught by the following: ‘The 5.50 express was specially stopped at Eynsford for the conveyance of the party to Maidstone, where the annual dinner of the Society was held at the Star Hotel in the evening, under the presidency of Lord Northbourne.’ Some of the members, and a large section of the party, including Lord Northbourne, and several members of the Council, were two hours late in arriving.”

I can’t think that the train would stop for a group of KAS Members today!”
