Do you recognise this spot?

The location of the mystery photo in our April issue (one of many unprovenanced images held in the KAS library collection) was identified by Chris Gibbs, Chairman of the Isle of Thanet Archaeological Society. He writes: "This is a view across Margate Sands probably taken on the promenade near the clock tower looking westward. Looking at a similar picture it also shows the flagstaff in the middle distance and the outline of the buildings near it (the Nayland Rock Hotel) look the same. Quite apart from that, there is nowhere in Kent with a wide sandy beach and buildings such as this."

This month our photo (see opposite) is a more personal scene. Do you recognize the rear of the house - or perhaps even the gentleman with a mourning band, leaning on the broom?
