Monumental Inscriptions in the old churchyard of All Saints Church, Allhallows
Monumental Inscriptions in the old churchyard of All Saints Church, Allhallows recorded by D. E. Williams September 2011.
Introduction
All Saints church lies in the centre of the old village on high ground overlooking the junction of the Rivers Thames and Medway. Most of the old village has been replaced by modern housing. The churchyard seems to have been full by the late 19th century, when a new burial ground was established a short distance to the south.
The churchyard has a lot of empty spaces, and I doubt if there were ever many more monuments here.
I have laid out the inscriptions, line for line, as on the originals, any eroded lines or lines reconstructed from the Registers or other sources are bracketed, thus, [ ]
Section A, is bounded on the west and south by the churchyard wall, and by the path from Binney Road on the east.
Section B, is bounded on the west by the above path, the south wall of the church and the east and south walls of the churchyard.
Section C, almost empty, is east of the chancel.
Section D, is the area north of the church.
Section E, is the area west of the church to the west wall.
