Monumental Inscriptions, including concise wills (pre 1858) and other notes of Baptist Burial Ground, Brewer Street, Maidstone recorded by D. E. Williams 2016.
Introduction
The Baptist Burial Ground, Brewer St, Maidstone
A Baptist Chapel was built here by James Steer, in 1831, (he is buried here), but some of the burials pre-date this time. This was the 3rd Baptist Chapel in Maidstone, it was founded in 1831 by a group who had seceded from the King Street Chapel. In 1833 it united with the King Street Chapel under the Rev. William Groser. The pastor, the Rev. Samuel Cornford and his friends formed the 4th church. Those who stayed in Brewer Street let the building to the Countess of Huntingdon's Connection, who supplied the ministers. The buildings on the left are modern and the one to the south, Frederick House, seems partly, to have some social service function. There is an entrance directly from the burial ground, to Frederick House, which might suggest that the chapel was on the same site? The path is a public footpath from Brewer Street, south to Union Street. Most of the monuments are in situ.
