Inscriptions in the Churchyard of Ridley, Kent, taken September 1890. A complete transcription of Vol. VII of L.L. 1  Eliza wife of Robert BENNETT of Ash died 7 November 1879 aged 58

2  Alice wife of Thomas BENNETT died 8 September 1835 aged 42. Thomas Bennett died 18 July 1852 aged 62.

 

                   By the West end of the Church are 4 Altar tombs

3   In memory of / William FARRANT of Branns Hatch in the Parish of / Kingsdown who died June 6th 1807 / aged 56 years.

    On the east end -

He left Issue / by Mercy his / wife Daughter / of John and / Mary WENSON / one son and / one daughter / (viz) William / and Ann.

 

(2) On the south side -

 

4   In memory of / Mr James WINSON / late of Farningham, Kent / who departed this life / February the 25th 1829 / aged 77 years.

     On the north side -

Sacred / to the memory of / Mrs Elizabeth Winson wife of Mr James Winson / late of this Parish who departed this life / January the 19th 1804 / aged 53 years.

 

(3) On the south side -

5   In memory of / Mr  John WINSON of Idley in the Parish / of Ash who died June the 16th 1786 / aged 33 years / left issue 1 son and 1 daughter (viz) / John and Philadelphia.

           On the east end -

In memory / of John son of / John and Mary / Winson late of / Idley, grandson of / John and Mary / Winson of this / Parish who died / March the 4th 1791 / aged / 6 years.

 

(4) On the south side -


6    In memory of / Mr John WINSON / of this Parish died August 18th 1791 / aged 64 years / left issue by Mary his wife one son / and two daughters (viz) James, Elizabeth / and Mercy.

           On the north side -

In memory of / Mrs Mary Winson wife of / Mr John Winson who died at Farningham / in this County March the 17th 1809 / in the 80th year of her age.

7    H.M.P. / Carus Caro / Frater Fratre / Jacobus FLETCHER / Obiit Decr. 7th 1815 / Aetat 32.

8    Mary Ann LOFT died 17 February 1859 aged 8 years. Sarah Loft died 22 September 1860 aged 15 years. Maria died 31 March 1882 aged 40 years.

9    Maria CORDER died 11 June 1877 aged 69.

10   In memory of / Alexander GRIGG of Newington / in the County of Middlesex. He died / August ye 13th 1761 aged 40 years / Also in memory of / Sarah wife of / Alexander Grigg and daughter / of William JOHNSON of this Parish. She / also died ye 13th of August 1761 / aged 41 years.

 

Head - by the porch door -

11    William JOHNSON of this Parish died 21 January 1763 aged 81 years. Also Elizabeth his wife died 20 February 1758 aged 70. Also two sons and one daughter of the above (viz) Thomas, William and Sarah.

12    Daniel WILLIAMS of this Parish, miller, died August 4th 1726 aged 46 years.

13    Mr Michael DEANE died October ye 26 1721 aged 93. Mr Michael Deane died June 15 1710 aged 83.

14    Ye bodies of / 3 sons of Mr / William DEANE / by Sarah his wife / viz Richard died in 1704 / aged 2 weeks / another Richard died / November 8 1707 / aged 2 years /Issac died June / ye 25 1709 / aged 15 years.

           Thorpe in the Registrum Roffense at page 1026 gives the following -

                                              Ridley Church

 


15    In the chancel, under the rails before the communion table is a gravestone of black marble with this inscription -

           Fuit Johannes Lambe, obijt Aprilis 24 1740 anno aetatis suae 54.

           Above are these arms viz a chevron between three holy lambs with staves and banners.

16    On a small gravestone of black marble adjoining is this -

                                              Lionel Lambe.
