Some Monumental Inscriptions of Shoulden Church, noted by Rev Bryan Faussett noted 1759. Also some Monumental Inscriptions  Noted by Zechariah Cozens about 1795, added 10th September 2008.

Funeral Inscriptions at Shoulden in Kent 1759.
In The Chancell.
1. On a Flat Stone. Here lyeth ye Body of Jane, Daughter of William and Elleanor WYBORNE, who departed this Life the 25th Day of November 1739 aged 6 months.

2. On Another Flat Stone. Here lieth the Body of Daniel, Son of William and Eleanor Wyborne, who departed this Life the 23rd Day o May 1741 aged 10 months.

3. On Another. Here lieth the Body of William, Son of William and Eleanor WYBORN, who departed this Life ye 20th of Sept. 1744 aged 2 Months and 12 Days.

4. On Another. Here lieth the Body of John, Son of William and Eleanor WYBORNE, who departed this Life 24 Jan. 1745-46 aged 4 Year and 6 Months.

5. On Another. Here lieth the Body of George, Son of William and Eleanor WYBORNE, who departed this Life 13 March 1749-50 aged 8 Months and 5 Days.

6. On Another. Here lieth the Body of William, Son of William and Eleanor WYBORNE who departed this Life 1 May 1747 Aged 8 Days.

7. This Church, wch. is small, consists only of the Chancell and Body. In a lower Tower at ye West End, hang 3 Bells, thus inscribed. 1. John JODSON made Me 1675. Will. HILD gave this Bell, by his Will. 2 & 3. Tho. BARKET made Me 1623. John HARWARD and Willm. HILD, Ch.Wardens.

8. This Church is call’d St Nicholas. It is a Chapel annext to Northbourne. The present Incumbent is Mr George SHOCKLEDGE. Thos. HUTCHESON succeeded in 1772.

9. In the Church Yard are Memorials of HILD and SMITH

10. From Ham we pursued our Visitation to the next Parish according to our course, which is Shouldon. It is situated about three miles to the South-east of the last described Parish (Ham). It is but very small and with few inhabitants, whose mean cottages are scattered at some little distance around the Church, which is a small building of one aile and a chancel, with a square tower at the West end, containing three bells.

11. On a small white stone near the altar: Here lieth ye Body of Will. Son of Will. & Eleanor WYBORN who departed this life the 20th of Sep. 1744 Aged 2 Months & 10 Days.

13. On another: Here lyeth ye Body of George, Son of Wm. & Eleanor WYBORN who departed this life ye 13 of March 1749/50 Aged 8 Months & 3 Days.

14. On another: William, Son of Bethel WYBORN died 1780 aged one Month.

15. There are several stones, which are covered by the altar rail and floor, which contain memorials of several of the WYBORN family: but of which nothing is now to be seen, but "Here lieth the" on each of them.

16. On a hatchment at the North side of the altar: Arms, WYBORN, viz. Sab. a fess Ar. between three Swans prop. impaling Gu. a fess, between two chevrons, vaire. Crest, a Wolf’s head eras’d, prop. collar’d, Or. Motto, Mors Janua Vitae.

17. On the Bells.
   1. John HODSON, C.H. made me 1675. William HILDE gave this Bell by his Will. P.B.W.S.
   2. Thomas BARTLET made me 1623. W.H., H.H. Church Wardens I.H.S.
   3. Thomas BARTLET made me 1623. William HILDE and Henry HARNET (error for HARWARD)
           Church Wardens.

18. This Parish as before observed, is very small, and the soil in general light and in some instances poor; but the prospects are very extensive and delightful, as they command great part of East Kent, with the town of Deal, Sandwich, Isle of Thanet, the Downs & the channel and in clear weather the coast of France.

19. The Living is a Chapelry and the Church is dedicated to St. Nicholas.

20. Patron: The Archbishop. 1795. Incumbent Edward BIRKETT.

21. (Now annexed to Northbourn).
