Michael Nightingale Memorial Twelfth Annual Lecture

The Nightingale Memorial Lecture is a joint annual lecture organised by the Centre for Kent History & Heritage, CCCU and Brook Rural Museum will be held at Canterbury Christ Church in the Michael Berry Lecture Theatre, Old Sessions House at 7pm on Tuesday 24 September.

This will be preceded by a wine reception at 6.30pm and before the lecture we’ll present certificates to those receiving Ian Coulson Postgraduate Awards towards their studies into different aspects of Kent’s history. As noted above, this year the Nightingale Lecture will be given by Dr John Bulaitis entitled ‘Book Launch – Tales from the Tithe War’. There will be copies for sale of John’s new book on this fascinating topic. The event is free but there will be a retiring collection.

Dr. John Bulaitis was until recently a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Drawing on his recently published book, tonight John will focus on the important Kentish incidents and participants who were involved in this bitter conflict, a social, agrarian conflict that has been called ‘this curious rural revolt that has, as John will demonstrate, included amusing incidents and colorful personalities.

For those interested, copies of John’s new book will be available to buy at a special price on the night.
