Isle of Thanet Archaeological Society Closure
The Kent Archaeological Society was devastated to witness the closure of the Isle of Thanet Archaeological Society (IOTAS) this month. Like many other organisations, IOTAS had been unable to recruit the necessary officers/committee members to enable it to continue. A valiant effort to keep the society functioning was attempted by many of its long standing and dedicated members and associates, but like so many other archaeology departments and groups in recent years, the effort could not be sustained.
We offer our sincere condolences to all those for whom the society meant so much. These groups are not only important for extending local research, but also play a vital role in the wellbeing of our communities, linking a wide range of people with common interests. The Kent Archaeological Society are keen to avoid these closures and will help in any way we can to promote local societies, and offer options to those from affected groups who wish to remain involved in historical and archaeological study.
