Kate Kersey
A Member of the Society since 1977 and appointed to Council in 2006. I have served on various committees including Membership and the Library. Between 2013 and 2016 I acted as an assistant to the Honorary General Secretary.
My background combines archaeology, social and community history. Between 2000 and 2014, I was founder and assistant leader of North Downs Young Archaeologists Club. I have also been a member of the Maidstone Area Archaeological Group, (2000 to 2016) and am currently Vice Chairman of Bearsted & District Local History Society. I have spent over two decades of researching, writing, and publishing several books on community and social history. All of this has highlighted the importance of an inter-disciplinary and complementary approach to history and archaeology. As a Trustee, I am conscious of the danger that the work of the Society could be ‘a well-kept secret’. I therefore seek to offer my professional skills to the Society together with an awareness of effective communication and of the need to work in new ways, using technology as appropriate. I appreciate the responsibilities of Trustees and the need for sound decisions. I welcome members discussing Society issues with me and aim to ensure that members will find that their concerns are noted by Council.
