Richd Fane, Henry Fane, Thos Fane and John Fane my
sonnes, Thos Durbar, John Goodeman, John A Children and Thos Sandherst
being my feoffees.
Fyrst I will Isabell my wyfe shalhave duryng hyr lyfe all those
londs etc the which the seid Isabell and I late togedyr hath been joyntly
seased of and also all that is dew to hyr by the reason of hyr dowre.
My feoffees shall suffre the seid Isabell to receyve the yerely
profits etc. of all my other Lordshippes Maners londis etc. except my
lordshipp called Albonys in Est Pekham the which I will my feoffees shall
delyver unto Henry my sonne to his own use and also a mede late purchased of
Peryn, the seyd Isabell to pay my dettes and my bequestis.
After 4 yeris and my last will performed in everything I will
that Thos Durbar, John Godemond, John A Children and Thos
Sandherst shall suffer Richd Fane to have the occupacon and profite
of all my maner of Snergate as by a feoffament bering date 26 March [1488]
more playly aperith. [Richard not to trouble wife etc]. After 4 yeris the seid
Henry Fane my sonne shalhave the occupacon and profite of all those londs and
tenements duryng the lyfe of the seid Isabelle the whiche the seid Henry
forthewith, Thos Durbar, Jn Godemond, John A Children and Thos Sandherst late
joyntly to gedyrs had of my gifte and feoffament besides the Lordshipp of
Albonys with all that with the seid Lordshipp is nowe later to ferme undre
lyke condicion as is before rehersed unto Richd Fane his brother
and after the deth of the seid Isabell my feoffees shall deliver unto the seid
Henry my sonne all those other londs etc. besides the Lordshipp of Albonys.
After 4 yeris my sonne Thomas Fane to have thoccupacon and
profite of all my messuge with a cotage therto lying gardens etc. belongyng
late the Mansion of Henry Fane my fadyr as by dede of feoffement 1 Aprill more
playnely apperith {same condition] and after death of said Isabell to be
delyvered unto hym in fee sympell Where as I John Fane thelder late had a
parcell of lond called Shiters by wey of exchange assigned to the seid Thomas
my sonne by this my last wyll if the seid Thos my sonne be put ther
from then the said Thos shalhave in recompens other landys lying to
the lands late Wm Adams and late of Richd Rolfe. Isabell
my wyfe to take thissues of lands etc. assigned to the seid John Fane my sonne
tyll he com to his full age of xxj yeres that is to say of all my tenements

If Thomas or John my sonnes be maried I wold that everich of them

This is of me, Johannes Cattys gentylman, made the sonday next
after the fest of thassumption of our Lady the Virgin (2 HVII) of all my
maners, landys, etc. in the parishes of Heriottsham, Brenchesle, Ealding and
Merworth.
My feoffees shall suffyr Emme my wyfe to have the occupation and
profite of all my londys etc. in the parissh of Brenchesle and certeign
parcellys of lond in Ealding at Colyongys Corner duryng hyr lyfe and after the
deth of the seid Emme unto Willyam Cobbes and Alice hys wyfe my doughter (in
default of heirs to my next heirs).
My feoffes shall delyver unto the seid Willyam Cobbes and Alice a
state of halfe my manor of Heryotysham forthwith the halfe of the landys etc

successours and disposid by there good discrecion.

profitt of a messuage in Lamberherst callid Halpeneys and V pecis of land and
woode in Lamberherst called Curters conteyning 20 acres and after the deth of

waxe and that they brenne every halidage durying the time that dyvyne service
be a doing in the said churche and that the said two tapers be renewed as

churche of West Malling and all the residew I will that the wardens of the

Agnes come to the age or be maried as is before reherced and then to the said
Agness all my said landes etc durying her life and after the discease of the
said Agnes if it fortune her to take souche a man to hus- bond that may be of
habilite to bye the reversion of the landes and tenements that I will the said
husband have the londs within the price of any other parson by xxli

said reversion and if he refuse than it to be sold to the moost profite and

Also that the parisshons of Ryersshe have then toward the
Reparacions of thaire Churche xxs.
Also that there be bestowyd toward the Reparacion of the high
waye in Shicburn Lane V marc and remnaunt to pore maydens mariages of the
Towne of West Malling and in and for clothing to be bought and geven to the
pore peopill of the same Towne.
I will the tenements with the gardens and landes set in the said
townes of West Malling and Ryersshe which wer somtime Thomas Langele be
disposed according to the wille of the said Thomas. Also I wylle that the
mease with a garden lying in West Malling which was somtyme John Hekstaple
remayne to Isabell late wif of the said John and after her discease to the
right heires of the said John.

of oure Lady of Pitty thre by the space of X yeres and a nother of ijli

Towarde the sustentacion of the same churche of Est Malling X
kynne and a bull the same to be delyvered to the church wardens for the tyme
being abowt the Feste of Phillip and Jacob next insuyng the date hereof the

cowe and the money comyng to apply and converte to the behoff of the same

owne use all the profytt and avauntages comyng of my shipp And yf the same
Alice will by the same shipp I woll thanne that she have the same in full
payment of those £20 I willed to be paid within xij monythes. I woll the same
Alice shall have to her owne proper use the one half or moyte of my shipp
callid the Cristofore wherof John Tamlyn is cooptener.
To the same Alice all my stuff of houseold and plate except a
cupp garnished with silver and the cover gilt, iiij silver sponys the one of
theme with a short stele, a fetherbed, a paire of blanketts, ij paire of
shetis, a coverlet, a bo[l]ster, a pillowe and a pillow bere which I bequeth
to John my sonne. To the same John £4 whenne he comyth to the age of 21 yeres.
If it fortune the same John to decesse then the same £40 shall
remayne to Johan my dougher whenne 21 or her mariage. If both decesse then
£20 shalbe bestowed in and about the rode loft of Est Malling in suych wyse
as myne extours shall think moste necessary and other £20 myne extours shall
ordeyn and fynde an honest preste to sing in the said churche of Est Malling
by the space of thre yeres for my soulle. To Johan my doughter V mark at the
age of 18 yeres or her mariage and when 18 myn extours shall geve unto her 40s
toward stuff of howssolde.

Pembury 6/8. I will a preiste shall sing in the saide churche of Est Malling

vestments of the valew of £15 be bought and geven to the churche of Est
Malling and with other parcellis of the said money a preist be founde to sing
in the churche of Est Malling for my soulle and the soullis of my fader and
moder and all Cristen sowllis thre hoole yeres And £10 parcell of the money
in making and repayring the high wey betwene the churche of Est Malling and
Newhith where as moost nede shalbe thought and the residewe in charitable
dedis.
Executours shall take thissues unto the tyme John come to the age
of 21 and Johan 18 in fynding and exhibicion of my saide children.
I will Helyn Pleby shall dwell in my howsse that she now holdith
duryng her lyff paying yerly to my said wyff Vs.
