The Monumental Inscriptions in the Church & Churchyard of High Halden, Taken in the Summer of 1894 by Wynford B. Grimaldi of Hathewolden & printed in January 1895 by W. Thomson, printed, of Tenterden.

 

Noted from a copy lent to me by the Rev. B.W. Gilpin, rector, in 1916. Missing numbers are those of footstones. The inscriptions may be taken to be headstones unless otherwise stated.

226.    Sarah wife of Sion Waterman of this Parish died at the London Surgical Home of a Fibrous Tumour 9 August 1865 aged 30.

 

228.    Elizabeth wife of Wm. Tyler died 20 January 1866 aged 36. Left 1 son and 4 daughters, Ann, Alice, Emma, William and Adelaid.

 

230.    Elizabeth Oliver second daughter of Henry and Mary Oliver of this Parish died 5 March 1867 aged 32.

236.    George Brissenden, youngest son of the late James and Jane Brissenden died 31 July 1871 aged 42.

241.    William Burch of this Parish, farmer, died 13 January 1872 aged 84. Left surviving 2 sons and 1 daughter, Allen, Ann & William.

Also Elizabeth Anne wife of Charles Oliver and eldest daughter of the above died 9 March 1867 aged 33. Left surviving Mary Parton, Jane Mannering, John and Eliza.

 

248.    George Russell, of Yalding, accidentally killed 10 September 1873 aged 26.

 

249.    Thomas Kirkbank died 2 October 1873 aged 82. Mary Ann his wife died 30 April 1872 aged 64. Also Sophronia Arabella Kirkbank died 30 April 1869 aged 22. Also William Burt Kirkbank died 8 September 1840 aged 4 years. Also Sylvester Albrina Kirkbank died in her infancy.

 

250.    William Wilkinson of this Parish died 21 March 1874 aged 83. Fanny Wilkinson wife of the above died 16 March 1875 aged 82

258.    Francis Matthew Gaugè died 18 March 1876 aged 73. Ellen Sarah his wife died 5 March 1850 buried in Kensall Green Cemetery. [London]

 

259.    Wm. Luxford, farmer, of this Parish died 25 December 1876 aged 77. Mary his wife died 25 June 1880 aged 80. Left surviving 5 sons and 4 daughters - Henry, Ann, Alfred, Sarah, Edward, Mary, Flora, William, Elizabeth and Eli. [sic - 5 daughters listed.]

 

261.    George Davis of this Parish died at Great Chart, July 21 1877 aged 91. Mary Ann his wife died 17 November 1852 after two years suffering aged 54. Left surviving 4 sons and 4 daughters.

264.    Elizabeth Luxford 4th Daughter of Wm. & Mary Luxford died 4 August 1877 aged 39. Also Wm. Luxford Late of this Parish 4th son of Wm. & Mary Luxford died at Wanganui, New Zealand, 17 November 1877 aged 41. 

 

267.    Roderic McLeod, Esq. died 6 January 1879 aged 71. Elizabeth Foster McLeod wife of the above died 17 November 1873 aged 71.

282.    Mary wife of Samuel Packham of Northiam, Sussex, (formerly wife of Thos. Cook of this parish) died 12 January 1885 aged 98 years and 11 months. Also Thomas Cook died 9 September 1827 aged 46. George their son died 9 August 1832 aged 15 years.

288.    Anne Betts wife of Wm. Mummery born at High Halden 8 January 1813 died at Ospringe 9 February 1886.
